Glaziers Islington
Islington is one of London’s most densely populated inner boroughs, with a rich mix of Georgian terraces and Victorian conversions sitting alongside modern commercial developments, vibrant high streets, and the major retail and leisure offer of Upper Street and the Angel. The variety of property types, and the intensity with which they are used, creates a consistent demand for professional glazing services. SGC Glass has been a trusted glazing contractor across North London since 1995, providing commercial and residential clients in Islington with expert glass installation, repair, emergency glazing, boarding up, and shopfront services.
Commercial Glaziers in Islington
Islington’s commercial activity is concentrated across multiple distinct centres: Angel and Upper Street, Holloway Road, the emerging tech cluster around Old Street, and the business district around Farringdon to the south. Each has its own character and its own glazing demands. SGC Glass works across all of them, serving independent retailers, hospitality businesses, office occupiers, and property developers with commercial glazing solutions designed to last.
Our commercial glazing work in Islington covers the installation and replacement of aluminium shopfronts, large commercial window arrays, glass balustrades for multi-level retail and office environments, internal glass partitioning, and specialist glass for hospitality and retail settings. We work closely with contractors, facilities managers and architects, to ensure that our glazing integrates with the building’s overall design and that all work is completed to the required standard and within programme. SGC Glass is CHAS and Achilles accredited, SafeContractor approved, ConstructionLine approved, and a member of the Glass and Glazing Federation.
Minimal disruption was really important to us and they absolutely delivered on that. Communication throughout was great; we always knew what was happening and when. The quality of the finished work was first class, and the pricing was competitive.
We'll definitely be using SGC Glass again for future projects.
Thanks also to Richard for making sure the design was exactly what I wanted. A great company to deal with at a fair price. Second time I’ve used them and I would definitely continue to do so! Many thanks SGC Glass Ltd.
Simply amazing and we couldn’t be happier.
Thank you so much for your review – it means a lot to us! We are so happy that you are pleased with our service. We will pass on the feedback to the rest of the team.
Great company to deal with, smooth sailing from start to finish. Definitely recommend to all.
Sorted out my bespoke glass order in no time.
Chris, who is very friendly and helpful, who installed the door was excellent, as taking out the old door without damaging the exterior render was not straight forward. But he managed to do it with just minor damage, which he repaired it once the door was fitted.
We’re very pleased with the final product and Chris went the extra mile to make sure the small details were done well.
We’d recommend SGC to others, and are waiting a quote for some further windows from them.
Star service. Highly recommend.
When challenges were finally resolved, Chris and Charlie came and fitted 4 windows and a door in my flat in London, did an excellent job, taking great care when removing the old ones to avoid any damage. They were very polite, the finishing was to a very high standard and they made sure everything was tidied up. Definitely recommend.
Product quality – excellent.
Installation team workmanship and knowledge – excellent.
Very professional and extremely friendly staff who could not have been more helpful.
would recommend SGC to anyone for any Double glazing requirements.
The workmen turned up promptly, worked quickly and carefully and cleaned up after themselves.
The process from discussing what what needed, the cost, and arranging a date for the work (which had to fit in with other work being done) all went smoothly.
I would use SMC Glass again.
Perfect
Shopfront Repair and Installation in Islington
Upper Street, Holloway Road, and Islington’s residential parade high streets are home to a high density of small businesses, restaurants, and independent retailers, all of which depend on their shopfront presenting well and functioning correctly. SGC Glass provides shopfront glass repair and full replacement across Islington, attending quickly when damage occurs and working to restore the frontage without disrupting trading any longer than necessary.
We supply and install toughened safety glass, laminated glass, and double-glazed shopfront units, and we work with both framed aluminium systems and frameless configurations. For businesses on busy Islington streets, laminated glass, which holds its structure when broken, preventing the pane from collapsing into the shop or onto the pavement, is a sensible security upgrade worth discussing at the time of any replacement.

Window Installation and Replacement in Islington
Islington’s residential housing stock is dominated by Georgian and Victorian properties, many converted into flats, which present particular glazing challenges. Original window profiles in these properties are often distinctive, sash windows, large single-pane bay windows, and decorative glass are all common, and replacement glazing needs to be sympathetic to the character of the building while meeting modern performance standards. Secondary glazing can be a good option to consider in conservation areas.
SGC Glass has experience working on these property types and can source glass and window specifications appropriate to the building. For properties within conservation areas, of which there are many in Islington, we work with planning requirements. For more straightforward window replacement, including failed double-glazed units showing internal condensation, we provide efficient assessment and replacement as required.
Glass balustrades are an increasingly popular feature in Islington’s residential and commercial buildings, particularly in converted properties where open-plan layouts and mezzanine levels are common. SGC Glass supplies and installs balustrade systems for staircases, terraces, and internal mezzanines, providing the safety function without blocking natural light.
Boarding Up in Islington
When glass is broken and cannot be immediately replaced, whether because the breakage occurs overnight, because specialist glass is required on order, or because the damage is extensive, professional boarding up protects the property from further intrusion and the elements. SGC Glass provides boarding up services across Islington.
Our team arrives quickly, installs secure boarding, and ensures the property is protected until permanent repairs can be completed.
For commercial premises on Islington’s busier streets, the appearance of boarding matters almost as much as its function. We install boarding as neatly as possible and prioritise completing permanent repairs at the earliest opportunity, minimising the time your premises are not at their best.
Emergency Glaziers in Islington
SGC Glass operates a quick emergency glazing service covering Islington and surrounding areas. A broken window in a residential flat in Barnsbury, a smashed shopfront on Upper Street, or damaged glazing on an office building in Farringdon. All can be attended to urgently by our glaziers, who arrive equipped to make the area safe and begin repair or boarding immediately.
Islington’s dense terraced streets and flat conversions mean that broken glass can present a risk not just to the immediate property but to neighbours, pedestrians, and passers-by. Our glaziers clear broken glass thoroughly and dispose of it safely before leaving any site. We do not leave a job until the property is properly secured.
What Sets SGC Glass Apart in Islington?
Three decades of operating as a glazing contractor gives SGC Glass a breadth of experience that most competitors cannot match. We have worked on everything from single pane replacements in Victorian flats to full commercial shopfront installations for major retailers, high-level glazing projects requiring specialist access equipment, and rapid emergency responses. Our glaziers are CSCS registered, and we hold CHAS accreditation, SafeContractor approval, Achilles approval, ConstructionLine approval, FENSA registration, and Glass and Glazing Federation membership.
Our approach is straightforward: honest assessment, accurate pricing, quality materials, and professional installation. Clients in Islington can request a free quote and we will always seek to try to beat any genuine like-for-like quotation from another contractor.
Islington Glazing FAQs
Yes, though replacement windows in conservation areas must comply with planning conditions, which typically require materials and designs that preserve the character of the building. SGC Glass works with clients in Islington’s many conservation areas to identify compliant solutions, including appropriate glass specifications and window profiles. We advise clients on what is permissible and can work within planning requirements. Secondary Glazing can be a good option in conservation areas.
SGC Glass supplies toughened safety glass, laminated safety glass, and double-glazed shopfront units for businesses in Islington. Toughened glass breaks into small, safer fragments on impact, while laminated glass holds together when broken, providing better forced-entry resistance. We advise on the most appropriate specification for your premises and location.
Yes. SGC Glass installs glass balustrades for residential and commercial properties in Islington, including on internal staircases, terraces, and mezzanine levels. Balustrade systems are designed to meet current safety standards while allowing light to pass through and maintaining an unobstructed sightline. Contact us to discuss your specific project.
Contact SGC Glass by phone or through the website with details of the windows you need replaced. We will arrange a survey and provide a free, no-obligation quote. Our uPVC windows are supplied through the Rehau system and are installed by our FENSA-registered glaziers, ensuring full compliance with building regulations.
Yes. SGC Glass has experience working on listed buildings and historic properties in London. Where listed building consent is required for glazing work, we work with the client and their architect or planning consultant to ensure the proposed specification is appropriate and will be approved. We can try to source glass and window profiles that match original designs.
Toughened glass is heat-treated to increase its strength, and when it does break, it shatters into small, blunt fragments rather than sharp shards, reducing injury risk. Laminated glass consists of two or more panes bonded with a plastic interlayer; when broken, the interlayer holds the glass together, preventing it from collapsing. Laminated glass offers better forced-entry resistance and is often recommended for shopfronts in higher-risk locations.
