SGC Glass fabricates and installs replacement aluminium windows on behalf of Milestone South East Ltd
SGC Glass was appointed to fabricate and install over 130 aluminium windows at Burden House in London, SW8, a large-scale residential refurbishment project across multiple occupied blocks. Chosen for our proven track record, in-house fabrication capabilities, and reliable project management, we worked closely with the client to deliver a comprehensive glazing solution that aligned with both technical requirements and aesthetic expectations.
A complete casement window replacement across two blocks
The project involved the replacement of existing windows across two residential blocks (Blocks 1 to 8 and 9 to 16), ensuring all new windows matched the style and configuration of previously fitted units.
We supplied and installed:
- 104 x 1300mm x 1300mm (approx) 3-pane casement windows (2 opening, 1 fixed)
- 20 x 2600mm x 1300mm (approx) 4-pane casement windows (3 opening, 1 fixed)
- 13 x 1300mm x 1300mm (approx) 2-pane fixed casement windows for communal stairwells
All products were Cortizo casement aluminium windows, finished in anthracite grey (RAL 7016 MATT), and included features such as glazed-in trickle vents, easy-clean egress hinges, and safety restrictors to side-hung sashes.
Coordination and client communication
From initial design sign-off to final handover, the project was underpinned by clear communication and structured coordination. Our team engaged with the client through Teams meetings, design approval processes, and regular site visits. A full-time SSSTS-accredited site supervisor ensured progress was carefully managed on the ground, while Microsoft Project Planner was used to maintain a clear installation schedule.
Given the blocks remained fully occupied throughout the works, we collaborated with the on-site estate manager to organise appointments for individual flats in advance, keeping disruption minimal and workflow continuous.

Overcoming challenges in an occupied setting
Installing in occupied flats always requires careful planning. To reassure the client and confirm design intent, we first installed a benchmark window for inspection and approval. Throughout the installation period, each flat was allocated specific booking times to keep the project running to plan, an approach that paid off, with the entire programme completed ahead of schedule.
In-house fabrication for full control and quality
SGC Glass proudly fabricates both Cortizo and Senior Architectural Systems aluminium glazing in-house at our Essex facility. This capability allowed us to maintain tight control over the quality, turnaround times, and delivery of products used at Burden House, providing the client with confidence throughout the build.
Performance, aesthetics, and safety upgrades
Our glazing solution delivered several key improvements to the building. The new windows offer better UV protection and improved thermal performance, helping to reduce energy loss. Ventilation was also improved, thanks to the upgraded design of the glazed-in trickle vents. From a safety standpoint, all side-hung openers were fitted with restrictors. Aesthetically, the anthracite grey finish and modern profiles provide a clean, contemporary appearance that better aligns with the building’s updated look.
